Grace is a Haiti immigrant and finally became an American citizen. Her sister is Caroline and her mother is Ma. Grace recognizes her sister's way of living in the United States and respects her mom's feelings to the homeland. Ma is their mother, who has a strong feeling to keep Haitian tradition. To be a Haitian woman leaving home for twenty-five years, she wants her offsprings mentally to keep being a Haitian. She couldn't bear that her daughter, Caroline, married with an American and got abandoned. It is obvious that Caroline has a strong, rejecting feeling to the Haitian tradition because of her mom, and she loves America and its culture. Eric truly cares about Caroline. Compared to the strong conflict of culture in this story, the existence of Neutral Eric is weakened.
