It is interesting that this story mentions the relationship between the narrator and the other characters from "Nineteen Thirty Seven" and " A Wall of Fire Rising", but it doesn't provide essential information to this story. The name of the story "Between the Pool and the Gardenias" implies a contrast between gender. From the point of view of from the narrator, she is a sufferer from the betraying of her husband. The strong obsession with babies drives her to pick the dead baby, while male characters in the story have brought many troubles for her, including the pool cleaner. Even though the dead baby is almost rotted, her crazy mind to babies and prejudice or misunderstanding from male characters lead to the end.
