Reflect on my scene
In my opinion, I did my scripts well. I was responded by writing the third scene, which was a point that converted the atmosphere of the play to the climax. The protagonist Romeo was told by his friend in the hospital-Mercutio that Juliet is merely a imagine. This scene recorded in the evening, the night fell but I applied an idea that we could use a flashlight while we were recording. In my perspective, the communication between two characters turns to the change of the tone is fluently and naturally. Mercutio is always laughing to the Romeo because he is an optimistic person with transvestism which represents he ignored all negative attitude from others. In scene two, I played the part of Tybalt, a nurse with a bad temper. When Romeo hit me on the ground, I was exaggerated the expression of being hit.
However, the thing I struggled was the lines in our scene three. On the one hand, I wanted to express a signal that this is a psychopath's talk, on the other hand, I wanted to express their emotion like a normal person who can be sad or mad. The control to the balance between normal and abnormal was struggling. As far as I concerned, all of us made a big progress from the beginning. Comparing to the self-improvement, I learned a lot from the others' performance, other's lines. Some person taught me how to extend your body movement to express your idea by body language while others taught me how to analyze a character through the lines from the play. The story "Romeo and Juliet" broaden my horizons that a play could have abundant branches to create new things. Through this story, we learned the adaptation, we came various ideas of each character.
The most important thing in group working is how to combine or balance your idea with others in order to make a complete work. Most of the time, it is extremely easy to have done your own job perfectly but it is tough to coordinate with others regardless of your job. In this time, we had a confliction that arguing about the choice of the places. Basically, the black box can be included all scene in itself, but one of us insisted to use different places. After we negotiated with each other, we found that it is hard to unify the idea.
Overall, I think our work was mostly accorded with our original ideas. One point is out of my assumptions that is Romeo always yelling out loud while he is acting. Mercutio in our initial thoughts is a funny and abnormal man, and Grace did it since she laughed and acted like a psychopath. The whole tone and style of acting and processing are basically similar with our thoughts. This adaptation is conservative, it doesn’t create a unnatural world , it doesn’t run out of the understanding of audiences. The plots and ending are easy accepted. Every characters have it’s own characteristics, it is easy to identify. Moreover, it has designed some comedic scene such as chase and bit. The characters of this adaptation is still surrounded the background of the original story. I can still see a patient Lawrence and a mad Tybalt. However, it adds a new concern that a good friend like Mercutio is really precious that he can do anything for you.
