Monologue Discuss 9/13
One of my monologue was talking about my childhood experience, when I created a framework of that monologue in my mind, I tried to take my myself to my virtual world in order to bring the true memory back. I imagined what was my classroom looked like, what was the scene that everyone in the classroom when the school was over. Finally, I found my characteristics of young ages back. I was scared most of my teachers, most of the times, I tried to avoid to have communication or talking with them. Then I created my character as a person who likes to avoid and escape from risks or unknown difficulties. In my memory, my elementary school teachers were scary and loudly, they liked to shout everything out when they found you did something which was not fitted with their expectation. Another monologue about the novel "Fences", the main character of this novel, troy was a big man. Troy is a kind of person who likes to take over all of the authority and cherish the efforts he put before. Troy wants to prove that he is the owner of the house, so that he sermonizes his son about the relationship between he and himself. Moreover, he values all of his works, then he uses his work experiences to prove to his son. In my opinion, troy should be really proud of his house, when he talks about what his son is using in this house, his tone has a kind of air of arrogance. When he talks about his works and his responsibilities to his son, his tone was obviously angry. I think he is angry for his difficulties and risks in his life and his complaints to the society.
The first monologue I played was that childhood experience, after I had an idea about how to use the furniture of the classroom to get help with my play, I had a little confused and forgot about my facial expressions. My voices and emotions looked a little bit monotonous. In the second play which was pg.38, "Fences". I found that I have no necessary to use any tools or furniture, I became to pay attention on my emotions, voices, and body languages. I think both monologues helped me a lot in different aspects of drama, I thought I can be better in the next time. One difficulty I found was the pause by tones in a sentence. In the beginning, I even lost sight of that, even though I got to become aware to have that, I still could not perform well on that cause it really takes me to fully comprehend the character.
Most of the students in my class did a great job, I saw some people really did well on facial expressions and tones. I saw some students moved a lot, it really attracts me because it looks real. However, I think there is a problem we all have now, it is the controlling to the speed of our performance. As I concern, we can slow down our speed a little bit, that helps audience to comprehend and involve in your performance.
