A review of Elm Shakespeare Company Presents “The TRAGEDY OF Romeo & Juliet”

This play was firstly beginning with the conflicting between members of Capulet and Montague. After the combat stopped, the Lord Montague Friar's son Romeo went to the feast of Capulet without knowing by anyone in Capulet. The play at here reveals that both families had a long history of fighting and arguing. Romeo and the girl Juliet who was the daughter of Capulet. Further, they got closer to each other. Afterward, Romeo crossed into the Capulet's manor and assured the love to each other. Even though Romeo and Juliet knew about how was the relationship intense in both families, but they were still married in cloister by monk Friar Lawrence because this would be the redemption for these two families. At noon of this day, Juliet's cousin Tybalt asked Romeo to have a duel. In spite, Tybalt was slain by Romeo. Romeo rushed to the place that was far away from the city to get avoided by the city manager. The son of the city manager, Paris was assigned to get married to Juliet. Juliet found Friar Lawrence to require a poison that made people looked died in order to get rid of the marriage. Romeo arrived the grave when he heard about the conditions of Juliet, then Romeo killed the Paris in the grave but feeling really sad with Juliet. He took up the poison and drank it, soon Juliet realized that Juliet had died, she killed herself, they finally died together. When the truth was revealed by people, the resentment in two families got over by the sacrificed of Romeo and Juliet.
The story was a sad love story, love could mostly view the theme, but sacrifices were covering the whole thing. On the one hand, they performed well on details and scene between Romeo and Juliet. On the other hand, they showed well on plays of fighting and battle. The music and lights both applied colors to the plays when it went to the parts of fighting, it made the atmosphere strained. In the building of the stage, it had a double deck big house that fitted each plot of the story at the same place such as the feast, or cloister. Moreover, the costume was also keeping the original style and easy to be identified by colors of its group. But it was not that complicated or dazzled. It is great that helps the audience to remember which standpoints that each character had. Romeo was the character that highlighted the most. Firstly he had many scenes that were surrounded by his internal descriptions, so that audience learned the most ideas and information from him. Character Romeo did well on it, the scene of him that explained his idea to the girl was impressive. There were some similarities in these two families. Mercutio was the friend of Romeo, Tybalt was the cousin of Juliet. Both of them were fighting and scarifying with the person they wanted to protect. It was a shame that they were ended with mistakes.
There were many actors or characters in this play. Despite most of the actors were acting well, but thought nurse played really well. The importance of the nurse in this play is helping and adjusting Juliet. Even though the nurse was not that person could have the idea to help them out of the bad conditions, but she played a figure that really should be existing in people's mind. A nurse really inputted all of her passion to the daughter and lady in Capulet. The actor made this character successful in her body languages and the emotions. To perform a role that paid attention a lot to other, we could see nurse always put her hands on others shoulders by one's side and tipped her head. The scene that she checked the body of Juliet laid on the ground. The changing of her emotions were sensitive and vivid. I could get a figure of a kind-hearted person.
The play firstly amazing me was the feast, it used a lot of different elements at there. It had modern music and dance from the other region such as Africa, I could get the passion and vitality from this crew. I did like this one because they did really good on performing each character, the tune while speaking was not complicated to distinguish the one's emotion. The actions of them were the exact reality, the motivation of running, fighting, communicating among actors. The tone of this story had not always serious, sometimes there was some plays amused audience. In this experience of play, I think I learned a lot about the facial expression and rhythm of speaking. It was a great show that helped me a lot in the beginning to study performance.
